Admiral Gardner Coin with Stainless Steel Mount
This coin was recovered in 1985 from the Admiral Gardner shipwreck.
According to all accounts, the Admiral Gardner and the Britannia, ships of the East India Company, were caught in a tremendous gale on the Goodwin Sands in January 1809. Consequently, both ships were lost.
The Admiral Gardner was en route to Madras, India with a cargo of copper ingots and coins that were specially minted for the East of India Company.
